Timber Joey Visits Orenco Elementary
On July 22nd, Orenco Elementary students were treated to a surprise visit by Timber Joey, the mascot of the Portland Timbers Soccer Team. Timber Joey read a book out loud to the students and led them in a few rounds of the team cheer which led to happy, joyous smiles and great, happy fun.
Along with being a mascot for the Timbers, Timber Joey is part of the Stand Together Program, which includes a literacy visit to an average of 25 local K-3 schools per year, sharing his personal reading journey and motivating young students. The program organizes community clean-ups, as well as funds to support a variety of charity groups and non-profit business. An interesting fact about the program is their Stand Together Week, where you can sign up to become a volunteer and help the community.
Timber Joey is part of the Rose City Readers Program, where he joins Timber players visiting school classrooms, bringing smiles to students and giving voice to any life challenges they may be experiencing. Scroll down to see photos...
